Search Engine or Directories?
Search
engines are how 85% of internet users find the information
they are looking for. It is a simple fact that if your not
listed chances are your missing a lot of potential traffic.
If you want to get noticed you must get listed. Search engines
and directories are nothing more than vast database's very
similar to the yellow pages that the phone companies publish.
The only difference is that they are much larger and you establish
the information that you want everyone to see. The major behind
the seines difference is that search engines use computer
programs called spiders to index and review your website.
Directories actually use real people to view every listing
they receive. A few top directories are Yahoo!, Excite, AOL's
netfind, and Google.
Secrets
about search engines
Search
engine robots (computer programs) look for meta tags within
the html code of your web pages for instructions on how to
look at your site and index it.
Keywords
are one of the meta tags that they look at. You should keep
them relevant to your site and not try to spam the engine
or trick them into thinking that you are presenting information
other than that which is in your site.
Hidden
words in the pages are also a no no these are words that the
user can not see but the robots can. Black type on a black
background.
Don't
use key words more than five times they filter for this and
may exclude you from the index.
Submit
your site to the search engines regularly but not more than
once every other week.
